D.C United manager Wayne Wazza Rooney believes Kylian Mbappe needs to leave PSG to either Real Madrid or Manchester United to get to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi level.

Kylian Mbappe led the Les Bleus to another World Cup final where they lost on penalties to Lionel Messi’s Argentina.

Meanwhile, Mbappé won the golden boot of the tournament with 8 goals ahead of Lionel Messi (7) and also became the second player to score an hat-trick in the World Cup final since Geoff Hurst (1966). He has also now scored 12 goals in 14 World Cup appearances making him only 4 goals shy of record holder Miroslav Klose at only 23 years.

Speaking to Sports 18, Wayne Rooney believes it’s time for Mbappé to make a move to another club.

“I think he needs to leave that club and go to the Premier League. PSG are a massive club, but I think he’s done everything he can in the Ligue 1. Maybe a Manchester United or Real Madrid. If he needs to reach the level of Messi and Ronaldo I think he needs to join Manchester United or Real Madrid.”

Mbappé was heavily linked to Real Madrid in the summer and was only just a signature away from signing for the Spanish Giants.

A new owner for Manchester United should the Glazers sell the club may also prompt a statement signing for the Red Devils and Kylian Mbappé is a perfect fit for that.

However, the 23-year-old is still under contract at PSG until 2025.
