A big tragedy in French Football as a 22-year-old player was a victim of gunfire in Marseille, France.

French 4th division side Aubagne shockingly announced that 22-year-old centre-forward Adel Santana Mendy was shot dead on Friday night in the 14th arrondissement in Marseille.

The 22-year-old played mainly as a striker and was a product of the Marseille youth academy. He then played England, before joining UE Sant Julia in Andorra, he later returned to France for spells with Côte Bleue, Marignane-Gignac and Aubagne most recently, a club he joined last summer, making eleven appearances already this season.

“He will leave a great void and will forever remain one of us. All our thoughts and condolences go out to his family,” said the Aubagne club on social media
