Former Arsenal striker Lucas Perez has decided to help out his struggling childhood club Deportivo La Coruña in third division by paying €500K of his own money to leave Cádiz.

The former Arsenal man has been decent for Cadiz this season, scoring three goals in 621 minutes in the La Liga and he is also their top scorer this season.

The 34-year-old has joined Deportivo La Carouña for €1m per transfermarkt with €500k being out of his own funds.

Pérez posted on social media to acknowledge Cadiz fans after playing only for a year with them, “Cadistas, I arrived a year ago with the clear goal of salvation and we achieved it!

“I want to thank the fans, the club and the city for the affection they showed me during this period. Now I’m going to have a dream!

“I will always wish you the best, you deserve it!”

Deportivo La Carouña has faced many on-field and off-field problems and are currently in the third tier of the Spanish league after leaving the top flight division few years ago.

In the English Premier League, Perez scored 7 goals in 21 matches for Arsenal and 6 goals in 19 matches for West Ham.

Pérez who can play as a right winger and second striker has a total of 104 goals in 381 matches so far in his career and he is an inspiration to many fans out there.
