American-born Super falcons defender, Patricia George has decided to take a break from football for a year.
George was invited by erstwhile coach Thomas Dennerby for a pre-Women’s World Cup camp in Spain following the successful completion of her nationality switch. However, she has not appeared as much with the Super Falcons.
“I am very grateful to this opportunity to play in this [Turkish Women’s Cup] tournament for Nigeria,” George told the media in 2021.
“I’m delighted and grateful to coach Randy for selecting me to be part of this squad to Turkey. I expect to probably play as an outside back or on either side because I am a pretty versatile player.
“My ambition as a soccer player is to get to the highest level and I’m here to do that with Nigeria and also be the best I can be.”
Last year, 2022, George joined Fenerbahce from German women’s Bundesliga side, Sportclub Sand from Willstätt, Baden-Württemberg but has struggled to get playtime due to injury.
Releasing a statement of her break on her Instagram page, George said ; “First, I would like to thank Fenerbahce for the opportunity! About a month ago we came to an agreement to part ways and allow me to do my rehab at home.
“With that being said I would like to let everyone know that I’ve decided to hang my soccer cleats up for at least this year and take a full break from playing soccer! It’s not a decision I made lightly but a decision that I know is right for me and my spirit. I Haven’t fully decided if I will try to make a comeback next year.
“But Right now I’m following my heart. And my heart is telling me to step away. Soccer has always been my identity so now I’m soul searching and finding myself outside of the game.
“Thank you everyone for all the support, Ive always appreciated all the love and positivity you guys send my way and Make sure to still stay tuned cause this is a new beginning and a start to a new me.”
