Victor Osimhen scored from tightest of angles to cement another Napoli win in the Seria A.
The runaway league leaders lined up to face Sassuolo at the Stadio Città del Tricolore on Friday night with Victor Osimhen leading the attack.
Two first half goals from the romantic Napoli duo, Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia secured their 20th win in 23 league matches.
The opening goal was a moment of real quality from the Napoli winger, as Kvaratskhelia collected the ball from Olivera near the halfway line before charging to the Sassuolo box and finding the bottom corner.
Lauriente thought he had levelled moments later, only for the post to deny him.
Osimhen also hit the upright before he found the back of the net from an impossible angle after being forced wide by the defenders.
The home side thought they had pulled a goal back after Lauriente converted Frattesi’s looping throughball. He was onside, but Defrel was not. The Sassuolo striker got in the way of Olivera, who tried to clear the ball, and the officials consulted VAR before making their decision.
Osimhen had second half chances to put the result beyond doubt but couldn’t beat Consigli a second time.
Simeone tried to make it 3-0 with the last touch of the game after getting his head on Lozano’s cross but the Mexican was deemed offside upon VAR review.
Osimhen has now 18 Seria A goals in 19 appearances, cumulatively scoring 100 career goals in 197 appearances, a faster rate than Messi – 210, Drogba – 236, Ibrahimovic – 245, Ronaldo – 301.
