Championship leading top scorer, Chuba Akpom netted two goals for Middlesbrough in a 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.
Days after picking up his PFA Fans’ Player of the Month in the Championship for January, Akpom continued his blissful form as he got another two goals to increase his tally in the league to 19.
Akpom headed the ball into the bottom corner to break the deadlock after a cross was swung in from the right by Dan Barlaser four minutes after the hour mark.
In the 77th minute, the Nigeria eligible striker was presented a chance to double the advantage from the penalty spot. Akpom missed the penalty but reacted quickest to the rebound to make it 2-0.
After Ilias Chair pulled one back for the visitors, Riley McGree put the seal on things in stoppage time.
Akpom is now five goals ahead of second placed Viktor Gyökeres in the top scorer spot with the former Arsenal youth player sparking into an incredible form under the tutelage of Michael Carrick.
Middlesbrough are now just four points adrift the top two spot with automatic promotion being the goal.
