The Nigeria Flying Eagles have kept their hopes of qualifying for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup alive with a 1-0 victory over the host nation, Egypt, in their second game of the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Solomon Agbalaka scored the winning goal with a powerful header from a corner kick with just 20 minutes left to play.
The Egyptians started the game strongly, but the Flying Eagles gradually found their rhythm and switched their tactics to exploit the spaces in-between the lines.
Despite creating several scoring chances, they were unable to convert them, and the first half ended goalless.
The Flying Eagles’ goalkeeper, Chijioke Aniagboso, made some impressive saves to keep the Egyptian team at bay.
The victory means that the Nigerian team will progress to the quarterfinals stage of the competition if they secure a draw or win against Mozambique in their last group game.
