Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, defeated Mozambique’s Mambas 2-0 in the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

The seven-time African champions needed a win or draw after losing to Senegal but bounced back to defeat hosts Egypt in their second group game.

The Flying Eagles missed some chances in the first half, but Samson Lawal’s fierce shot from outside the box broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute.

Four minutes before halftime, Solomon Agbalaka intercepted the ball and passed it to Ibrahim Muhammad, who scored a beautiful curler to double the lead.

In the second half, coach Ladan Bosso made several substitutions, including bringing in Ahmed Abdullahi, who missed a chance to extend the lead.

Egypt and Mozambique finished the group with one point each, while the top two teams in Group A are one win away from qualifying for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.
