Flying Eagles of Nigeria beat Uganda 1-0 on Thursday to qualify for the Under 20 AFCON semi final as well as an automatic qualification to the next U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

An own-goal by Juma on the hour mark proved to be the decider in this tense and important game.

Nigeria’s number 11, Muhammad whizzed past defenders before shooting a shot that was deflected onto the upright which ricocheted to hit Juma on his leg into the net.

It was a forgettable moment for the Ugandans who hoped to make history for their nation’s football.

All attempts to get an equalizer proved futile with Nigeria’s defense being very compact. The Flying couldn’t take advantage of their quick counter to increase their advantage but the 1-nil was enough to see them off the finish line.

Nigeria has now made the last four of the AFCON U-20 competition and by virtue of that, automatically qualifying to represent Africa in the U-20 World Cup at Indonesia scheduled to hold Sat, 20 May 2023 – Sun, 11 Jun 2023.
