Vanessa Bryant has settled her remaining claims with Los Angeles County for $28.85 million over the sharing of photos by deputies after the 2020 helicopter crash that killed her husband, former Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, their daughter Gianna, and seven others.

This settlement includes the $15 million a jury had previously awarded Vanessa Bryant in August after a trial in federal court. Vanessa Bryant’s lawyer, Luis Li, said the settlement was a “successful culmination” of her “courageous battle” and hoped it would end the practice.

Los Angeles County’s lead lawyer, Mira Hashmall, called the settlement “fair and reasonable.” Co-plaintiff Chris Chester, who lost his wife and daughter in the crash, received a $19.95 million settlement.

The photos were shared mostly among employees of the Los Angeles County sheriff’s and fire departments and were also seen by some of their spouses and others.

Vanessa Bryant testified during the trial that the photos compounded her grief, and federal safety officials blamed pilot error for the crash.
