Chuba Akpom has achieved a remarkable feat for Middlesbrough Football Club by becoming the first player to score 20 or more league goals for the club since 1990.
Prior to his brace in the 5-0 win against Reading, no player had managed to score 20 goals in a single season since the 1989-1990 campaign.
Akpom’s achievement sees him join the likes of Middlesbrough legend Bernie Slaven, who scored 21 goals during the same period.
The 27-year-old scored his twentieth league goal of the season from the penalty spot 24 minutes into the match, before adding a second goal just two minutes into the second half.
Although he narrowly missed out on scoring a hat-trick, his 21 league goals place him ahead of Coventry City’s Viktor Gyökeres in the race for the Championship Golden Boot.
The other goal scorers for Middlesbrough in the match were Aaron Ramsey, who scored two goals, and Marcus Forss.
