The Nigerian under-20 national football team has been eliminated from the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations after losing 1-0 to Gambia.

This loss marks the first time Nigeria has been defeated by Gambia at this level, and it also ends their pursuit of an eighth continental title.

Despite previously holding a better head-to-head record against their West African rivals, the Flying Eagles struggled in the opening minutes of the match and were punished with a goal by Gambia’s Adama Bojang.

Nigeria improved their performance after going behind, but their lack of quality in the final third prevented them from equalizing before halftime.

They were also unable to turn the game around in the second half, and even a penalty awarded to them in the closing stages did not result in a goal.

Gambia were reduced to ten men, but Nigeria still couldn’t find a way to score.

As a result of their defeat, Nigeria will now play Tunisia in the third-place match while Gambia advance to the final.
