Super Eagles and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has given credit to the late Napoli and Argentina football legend, Diego Maradona.
The current Seria A top scorer has praised Maradona as an inspiration to the team and the entire city, and highlighted the motivation he provides to the club.
Maradona played for Napoli from 1984 to 1991, leading them to their last Italian league title in 1990, as well as the Uefa Cup, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa Itallana.
“In Napoli, the first player who comes to mind of the fans is (Diego) Maradona. Even if we can win the Scudetto, we can’t compare with what Maradona has done, he’s more than a legend,” as quoted by brila.net
Osimhen believes that, despite their current success, they cannot compare to Maradona’s legendary accomplishments.
“We’ve been doing quite well, but I don’t consider myself as an icon, until we achieve the objective.”
He emphasized the love for football in Napoli and the fans’ support for the team, which he aims to reciprocate by providing a memorable performance.
“As a footballer, when you arrive in Napoli you fall in love even more with football, because they base all their life on the game and the support for the team.
“To be able to try to give them something to remember is a big mission for me,” He said.
Osimhen has scored 19 goals in 21 games for Napoli, who currently hold a 15-point lead as they chase their first title since 1990.
