The coach of the Nigerian national football team, Jose Peseiro, has expressed his belief that Ademola Lookman possesses more technical skills compared to Victor Osimhen.
Peseiro made this statement while in Naples to watch a match between Napoli and Atalanta, which Napoli won 2-0.
He attributed Lookman’s growth to the help he received from Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
During the match, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored a beautiful goal for Napoli, with Osimhen providing the assist. Amir Rrahmani added another goal for Napoli later in the game.
Peseiro praised Lookman’s current form, saying that he not only creates chances but also scores goals, and that he has the potential to achieve great things.
“Ademola (Lookman) is more technical than Osimhen, more inclined to create chances and he is now also scoring.
“He’s doing really well this year. He grew up with Gasperini and now he’s always playing well and we’re happy with him.
“He too can aspire to do great things,” said Peseiro.
Lookman is currently ranked third in the Serie A top scorer’s race with 12 goals from 25 league appearances for Atalanta, behind Osimhen and Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan.
Peseiro believes that the improvement in the performances of both Osimhen and Lookman is due to the positive game system they operate in, with both Atalanta and Napoli prioritizing possession and attacking play.
“I would add one thing that applies to both,” he continued.
“It is no coincidence that they have both grown like this this year. This is because they are both within a good game system.
“Atalanta and Napoli want the ball, they want to play and attack. In these conditions, players like this are exalted. Italian football has changed a lot in recent years.”
Peseiro sees this as an indication of the recent changes in Italian football.
