Shola Akinlade, a Nigerian software engineer and co-founder of Paystack, has purchased a 55% stake in Aarhus Fremad, a Danish second division football club.

Akinlade’s goal is to upgrade the club, and his acquisition comes after he established Sporting Lagos, a second-tier Nigerian club, in 2022.

Aarhus Fremad is currently leading the Danish second division with a six-point lead.

The club released a statement expressing excitement about the new ownership and future collaborations.

“We have looked at the date correctly, and yes – it is good enough Aarhus Fremad has closed an agreement today, which means a new owner in the club. We are very much looking forward to the collaboration and eagerly await what the future brings us.”

In the future, Sporting Lagos and Aarhus Fremad will become a cooperative club.
