Former Nigerian national team star and Premier League veteran, John Mikel Obi, recently shared his insights on the possibility of his compatriot, Victor Osimhen, joining Manchester United. Speaking on Dubaieye radio station, Mikel had both praise and constructive criticism for the talented forward, while also commending his character.
Mikel acknowledged Osimhen’s impressive performances for Napoli this season, stating, “When you look at Victor Osimhen, he is doing really well for Napoli, he’s playing really well. He’s going to be on the market in the summer, I think Man United are going to go for him, definitely.” He highlighted Osimhen’s goal-scoring prowess, stating, “He scores goals, that’s what he does, he scores goals.”
However, Mikel also pointed out a technical flaw in Osimhen’s game, saying, “Is he very technically good? Not as much, but he will get you goals for sure.” Despite this criticism, Mikel still believed that Osimhen would be a valuable asset for any club, stating, “He’s someone that every club would love to have.”
When asked about Osimhen’s potential fit with Manchester United, Mikel responded positively, saying, “I think he would be the perfect fit for them.” He went on to explain, “He would be the finished article for this United team, who play some really good football now.” Mikel highlighted Manchester United’s need for an out-and-out striker and expressed confidence that Osimhen could fill that role, stating, “If they could be able to go for him [Victor] and they could be able to get him, I think he would be the icing on the cake for them.”
In addition to his assessment of Osimhen’s football abilities, Mikel also commended Osimhen’s character, saying, “[He is a] good boy, lovely boy, very respectful, down to earth, humble.” Mikel acknowledged that he did not have the opportunity to play with Osimhen for a long time in the national team, but during the period they did play together, he found Osimhen to be a really nice person.
Osimhen has been in sensational form, scoring 25 goals in 29 games in all competitions this season. Mikel’s evaluation of Osimhen’s potential move to Manchester United, with both praise and constructive criticism, along with his commendation of Osimhen’s character, adds depth to the discussion about the Nigerian striker’s future prospects.
