Cremonese, also known as the Grigiorossi, had a slow start to the season but have been showing signs of improvement in recent weeks.
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers played a key role in their hard-fought 1-0 victory against Empoli, scoring the winning goal.
Cremonese coach Davide Ballardini gave Dessers his second consecutive start, and the former Genk player wasted no time in showcasing his quality.
In the fourth minute of the game, Dessers intercepted a precise long ball from Empoli defender Leonardo Sernicola with a chest down, before sending a low shot into the net to give Cremonese the lead.
Although there were chances for both teams in the first and second halves, Dessers’ goal proved to be the decisive moment.
Dessers was substituted in the 67th minute but had a decent performance overall, with a total of six goals this season.
Cremonese’s victory against Empoli marks their second consecutive win, but they are still struggling near the relegation zone, sitting seven points away from safety with 19 points after 30 games.
