Debutants Al Ahly opened their campaign at the Nile Conference of the Basketball Africa League with a 92-74 win over Ferroviario da Beira at the Hassan Moustafa Sport complex in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday.

The South Sudanese international Nuni Omot led all players with 21 points while Corey Webster added 11 points, 7 assists and Omar Oraby shot 15 points and 6 rebounds.

Michael Thompson also contributed 11 points, 6 rebounds, including 2 of 6 from behind the arc and 5/5 from the foul line.

Nuni made huge contribution for the Egyptian giants with 8-of-8 from the free throwline and added 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block.

Al Ahly were dominant from start to finish despite a late fight back from the Mozambican champions.

The host took control of the paint and used their size to their advantage they outscored Beira 40-36 in the paint and hit 50% shooting from the field.

William Perry shook off a poor start to score 18points for Beira while Bourama Sidibe added 18, Ismael Nurmamade (12) and Najael Young (10).

Beira struggled from the arc as they managed just 2 three pointers against 9 made by Al Ahly.

Action returns on Thursday as SLAC take on Cape Town Tigers while 2022 Finalists Petro de Luanda battle City Oilers.
