Germany has been named host of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup (FIBAWWC) 2026.
Same as the Men’s World Cup, the decision to award the hosting rights of the FIBAWWC to the German Basketball Federation, was reached during FIBA’s Central Board meeting held in the Philippines on Friday.
This will be the second time that Germany will host the women’s flagship tournament, having previously done so in 1998.
The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 will take place in September 2026 in Berlin and will be played at two different venues, Arena Berlin and Max-Schmeling Halle.
FIBA President Hamane Niang said on fiba.Basketball: “FIBA received interest from several National Federations to organize the next women’s World Cup, confirming the unique momentum for women’s basketball. After the incredible success of the last edition in Sydney, we now look forward to the biggest women’s event in basketball taking place in another iconic city like Berlin.”
The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 will be played with an expanded field of 16 teams and national teams will qualify through a new Pre-Qualifying Tournaments, to be played in 2024.
