Egypytian Giants, Al Ahly survived a late rally in the fourth quarter to defeat City Oilers 72-70 in their second game of the Basketball Africa League Nile Conference on Saturday night in Cairo.
Nuni Omot scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals while Omar Oraby added 10 points and 10 rebounds the only two plays who finished on double figures fo Al Ahly.
The host led for most part of the game and stretched it to 33 points with 3:56 left in the third quarter. The turning point started for Oilers after Fayed Baale knocked down a three in the third quarter.
With 2.6 seconds left to play, the Oilers cut the gap to just two points.Oilers tried one more offensive play after their head coach Mandy Juruni called a timeout but Al Ahly avoided what could have been the biggest upset yet in the 2023 Nile Conference.
Germaine Roebuck Jr was involved for the Ugandans all through his 37 minutes played on the floor. He shot 10-15 from the field for 28 points, 11 rebounds, 2assists and a block.
Falando Jones contributed 15 points and James Justice Jr. added 11 points for the Ugandan champions.
City Oilers who are still in search of their first BAL win will next face SLAC while Al Ahly will play Cape Town Tigers on Tuesday, May 2.
In the other game played on Saturday, Petro de Luanda were ruthless against Ferroviario da Beira in a 101-76 blow out win.

Gerson Goncalves and Aboubacar Gakou added 11 points apiece, and Damian Hollis contributed 12 points off the bench.
Beira suffered 25 turn overs against 12 committed by Petro they also had fewer points from the bench 19-47.
