Nigeria senior men’s national team, D’Tigers will play the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments from August 12-20, 2023,
in Lagos.

Lagos has been selected by FIBA as venue for the African Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments.

The last time an international basketball tournament took place in Lagos was the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in July 2018.

Nigeria and 39 other countries who failed to make it to the 2023 FIBA World Cup have been given another opportunity to make it to the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.

By winning a Pre-Qualifying Tournament, a country would then take part in one of next year’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, with the winners of those clinching spots in Paris.

The participating teams have been distributed in four pots based on the FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike.

By the draw, the teams from each pot will be distributed in two groups and at the same time each will be assigned a competition number.

Five winners from Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas will earn spots in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments to be held in July 2024.
