LaLiga giant, Barcelona football club will consider playing in the Asian Champions League, should they receive a ban from UEFA that stops them from competing in the Champions League, according to various reports.
Following an investigation into allegations that Barcelona made payments to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the then-vice president of the Spanish referee’s committee between 2001 and 2018, Barcelona could be barred from next season’s European Champions League.
Jose explaining his income in 2021 has seen by El Pais, in which the former official explained the nature of his work with the club.
“FC Barcelona considered that the team was harmed and other teams were favoured. This is a personal hypothesis, nobody has told me directly,” Negreira’s statement read.
“My obligation was to give my opinion about the matches in terms of arbitration and the players. Technical advice. What FC Barcelona wanted was to make sure that no decisions were made against the club, that everything was neutral.”
As per Catalan television programme Onze, via Sport, the club has begun preparing for the worst and conducted a study into where else the side might play should they find their entryway to UEFA competition temporarily barred.
The Catalan based club has a 14 – point lead over rivals, Real Madrid. With five matches left to play in the league, Barcelona are certain of wining their first title since 2019.
