OGC Nice secured a 2-1 victory over Rennes in a French Ligue 1 clash held at the Allianz Riviera.

The former Lorient star, Moffi, had been struggling with a mini-goal drought, having gone four games without finding the net – three in the league and one in the Europa Conference League, but he broke the deadlock in the 71st minute, doubling the home team’s advantage.

The first half ended goalless, with both teams failing to convert their chances. Moffi had opportunities to score on two occasions, but he missed his headers. However, Gaetan Laborde gave Nice the lead in the 48th minute after being set up by Badredine Bouanani.

Moffi’s goal came as a result of a defensive error by a Rennes defender, allowing him to dribble past the goalkeeper and slot the ball into an empty net. Rennes manager Bruno Genesio reacted by replacing Lesley Ugochukwu with Ibrahim Salah.

Rennes pulled one back through Bourigeaud, assisted by Karl Toko Ekambi, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the match. Moffi’s goal took his tally to seventeen for the season, making him the sixth highest scorer in Ligue 1, behind Kylian Mbappe, Jonathan David, Alexandre Lacazette, Lois Openda, and Folarin Balogun.

The win moved Nice to eighth place in the league standings, with 51 points and four matches remaining in the 2022-2023 season.
