Nigeria-eligible forwards Chuba Akpom and Nathan Tella have been nominated for the prestigious English Championship Fans’ Player of the Year award for the 2022/2023 season.

Akpom showcased outstanding performances at Middlesbrough, scoring 28 goals and providing two assists in 38 appearances, contributing to Middlesbrough’s qualification for the Championship playoffs.

His exceptional season also earned him the PFA Championship Player of the Year award, the EFL Championship top-scorer award, and the Players’ Player of the Year award.

Meanwhile, Tella had an impressive campaign at Burnley, where he played a vital role in the team’s promotion to the English Premier League. Tella scored 17 goals and assisted five others in 39 appearances for Vincent Kompany’s side.

Akpom and Tella are considered frontrunners for the Your PFA @VertuMotors Championship Fans’ Player of the Year award, competing against fellow nominees Amad Diallo from Sunderland, Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry City, Carlton Morris from Luton Town, and Liman N’Diaye from Sheffield United.

The winner of the award will be determined through votes from players, trade union members, fans, and the Professional Football Association. The announcement of the winner is forthcoming.
