Former Nigeria international, Celestine Babayaro has described Nottingham forward, Taiwo Awoniyi as more of the mould of Rashidi Yekini than Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen.

Awoniyi’s 19th minute strike was enough to seal the maximum three points for Nottingham against Arsenal and spark jubilant scenes from the home supporters at the City ground yesterday.

Speaking to Owngoal after the game, Celestine Babayaro who spent seven-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge said ; “When I watch him play, it’s like Yekini in his prime. The way he comes alive in the box and fights for very ball.

“He uses his body very well and don’t need to get much involved before scoring. He is to me more like Yekini than Osimhen. Their style is so similar.” Babayaro concluded.

The former Union Berlin and Liverpool striker’s goal has been instrumental to Nottingham Forest staying up in the league. He scored Nottingham’s first Premier League goal against West Ham on match day two, having made a cameo appearance against Newcastle United in the opening day.

“We’ve been really happy with T. He showed a great attitude and commitment to getting back in the way he did,” says Cooper after the 2-2 draw against Chelsea. Awoniyi scored both goals for Nottingham at the Stamford bridge.

He has scored five goals in his last three games for the Forest.
