Werder Bremen, a German Bundesliga club, is keen on strengthening their attacking options and has wasted no time in identifying potential strikers. They have already initiated talks and made an approach as they gear up for the upcoming transfer window.
According to a source close to Chuba Akpom, the top scorer and standout player in the English Championship, the 27-year-old forward, who netted 28 goals this season, is one of the targets for Werder Bremen. Discussions between the two parties are already at an advanced stage, per owngoalnigeria.
Akpom’s contract with Middlesbrough, who narrowly missed out on a promotion playoff spot, will expire on June 30. As a result, several teams, including the Bundesliga side, have expressed interest in securing his services on a free transfer.
However, the deal is currently on hold as Werder Bremen explores other options, particularly in England. Two English Premier League clubs and a recently promoted side have shown their desire to sign Akpom. Despite these contacts, Werder Bremen seems to be the frontrunner in negotiations, having already submitted a written offer outlining the proposed three-year contract with an additional option year.
