Nigeria’s U-20 girls, known as the Falconets, demonstrated their dominance in the 2023 WAFU U-20 Women’s championship by advancing to the semifinals after a resounding 6-0 triumph against Togo in their second group stage match.

Having already achieved a similar scoreline in their tournament opener, the Falconets sealed their place in the last four with a game to spare. The team entered the encounter at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Stadium with high spirits, having previously thrashed Niger Republic 7-0.

The Falconets wasted no time in asserting their superiority, opening the scoring in the 11th minute courtesy of Amina Bello. Shortly after, Flourish Sebastine extended Nigeria’s lead to 2-0. Esther Chinemerem then converted a penalty in the 30th minute to make it three for her side.

In the second half, the Falconets continued their relentless performance. Amina Bello added her second goal of the match in the 57th minute, while Opeyemi Ajakaye found the net two minutes later, increasing Nigeria’s advantage to 5-0. With only fourteen minutes remaining, Sebastine completed her brace, wrapping up the game in style.

The emphatic victory firmly places Nigeria at the top of Group B with six points and an impressive goal difference of thirteen. In their final group stage match, Chris Danjuma’s side will face Burkina Faso in what promises to be another exciting contest.
