In the aftermath of the National Under 23 Team’s inability to secure qualification for the U-23 AFCON and the quarter-final exit of the Golden Eaglets in the recently concluded CAF U-17 tournament, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has made the decision to terminate the contracts of coach Salisu Yusuf and Nduka Ugbade.
Yusuf and Ugbade have been relieved of their duties due to the dismal performances displayed by their respective teams. NFF President Ibrahim Gusau publicly announced their dismissal, stating, “Their jobs are tied to the competition. The coaches have no jobs to do for now since their teams failed to qualify,” as quoted by vanguardngr.
As a result of the U-23 team’s failure to secure a spot in the U-23 African Cup of Nations, they will be unable to participate in the football event at the upcoming Paris Olympic Games in 2024.

Similarly, the Golden Eaglets, under Ugbade’s guidance, suffered elimination at the quarter-final stage of the U-17 African Cup of Nations, which consequently resulted in Nigeria, a five-time world champion, missing out on a place in the forthcoming World Cup.
